White tubes are opaque, protecting your formula from light degradation - UV exposure can break down the nourishing oils and butters inside over time. We also avoid black tubes, which often contain additional colorants and additives in the plastic itself, keeping our tube formula as minimal as possible. Our tubes are BPA free, food grade HDPE - one of the two plastics that dominate cosmetic and lip balm packaging, used by the vast majority of commercial and indie brands including many in the "clean beauty" space. HDPE is chemically stable, heat resistant up to 120°C, flexible, and does not react with anhydrous (water-free) formulas like ours. We won't tell you plastic is completely zero risk because no plastic is, but an oil and wax based formula in food grade BPA free HDPE is considered a low risk category - significantly lower than water based or high alcohol formulas. We considered paperboard tubes but opted against them - most have a plastic interior lining anyway, they have lower heat resistance, and the construction can present sealing and leakage concerns. We're telling you all of this because you deserve to know, not just be told it's "clean" and "natural" without explanation. For those who prefer to avoid plastic entirely, we also offer our lip balm in 7ml glass jars, each featuring a hand-finished carved rose set into the top - a beautiful plastic-free option and a perfect gift. The jar lids do have a plastic component, however the lid never comes into contact with the lip balm itself during production or use.
