Description
This necklace features imagery from Allegory of Divine Providence and Barberini Power, the monumental Baroque ceiling fresco painted by Pietro da Cortona between 1632–1639 for the Palazzo Barberini in Rome. The sprawling composition was created as a celebration of the powerful Barberini family, overflowing with symbolic figures, gilded ornament, movement, and theatrical grandeur characteristic of the Italian Baroque. The fragment used here centers on an elaborate cluster of ceremonial objects and ornamentation, rich with the feeling of abundance and pageantry. There is something almost dreamlike about these tiny details when removed from the vast fresco itself, transformed from soaring ceiling decoration into a small wearable study of color, texture, and history. • Pendant measures approximately 30.9 x 25.2 x 2.9mm • 18" textured gold plated brass chain • Historical imagery preserved with resin • Gold plated brass bezel and findings This is a one-of-a-kind item. You will receive the item pictured here. Collector’s Notes: I’m endlessly fascinated by Baroque interiors and decorative arts, especially works that feel excessive in the best possible way. Pietro da Cortona’s frescoes are filled with swirling allegory, illusion, and ornament, where every inch seems alive with movement and meaning.
