What Are Xenoestrogens? Our modern environment is FULL of chemicals that act as xenoestrogens. Xenoestrogens are chemicals and compounds from outside of the body, then when ingested or absorbed, act as weak estrogens in the body. Not to be confused with phytoestrogens from food that sometimes have health benefits, xenoestrogens are chemicals found in everyday personal care products, cookware, plastics, flame retardants applied to mattresses and furniture, and, in general, almost everywhere else you can imagine! We can ingest and absorb xenoestrogens every single time we smell chemical fumes, handle receipts from the grocery or department store, drink out of plastic bottles, eat out of plastic or styrofoam storage containers… even sleeping on your 10 year old or brand new memory foam mattress might expose you to these insidious chemicals.
