They are described as having the head of a crocodile, the feet and tail of a lion, twelve wings, and being purplish in color, like a rainbow. Chalkydri are depicted as dwelling near the Sun and carrying heat and dew to Earth. They were also believed to make the birds sing in the morn during dawn.
