Description

In 1844, Architect Eugene Emmanuel Viollet le Duc, already famous at age thirty for his work on French medieval landmarks, began a restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral. His work included reconstructing the façade, which had been heavily damaged during the Revolution.   The Cornerstone Dragon was among the gargoyles and other decorative elements which replaced the old sculpture under the supervision of Viollet le Duc and his collaborator, Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Lassus. This intrepid little fellow can be purchased as a pair of bookends, or as a decorative element which stands alone, bravely warding off evil spirits wherever they may attempt to gain a foothold. Extremely Fragile, Poor Quality, Not Suitable for Use I purchased 2 sets of lion claw bookends from House Parts and was incredibly disappointed with the quality. These pieces are far too delicate to handle or transport—they chip with the slightest movement. Even with careful packing and gentle handling, the material feels brittle and unstable, nothing like what you’d expect for functional decorative pieces. For the price, I expected durability and craftsmanship. Waste one money.

Despite our attempts to connect with the customer and remedy his concerns about these items, he elected to leave these reviews on products which were damaged under his care, over 2 weeks after they were successfully received. The pieces were repackaged by the customer and broken after he subsequently traveled with them. These items are handmade in plaster here in the US and we have been making and shipping them from our Atlanta studios for nearly 50 years. Plaster is a material that has been used for thousands of years throughout history, but does require extra care in handling and packaging. Rest assured, we take great pride and care to send you beautiful, unique handmade items safely. Should you ever have questions on how best to transport them or care for them after purchase, you are always welcome to reach out to our team. House Parts, Inc.Dec 24, 2025
