This ring is inspired by sampler cloths. Sampler cloths are traditional handicraft pieces that were made in the Netherlands from the 17th century to the 20th century. They were intended as practice pieces for young girls to learn and perfect various embroidery techniques, but they also served as a kind of portfolio of their skills. A typical sampler cloth featured various embroidery techniques, such as cross-stitch, satin stitch, backstitch, drawn thread work, and more. Additionally, initials, dates, motifs, symbols, and sayings were often embroidered. These elements could serve as personal accents or as instructions for the maker.
