The Southern Sea Otter has 10 times as many hairs per square inch as we do on our heads. Because of the quality of their fur, Sea Otters were hunted almost to extinction in the 18th and 19th centuries. They may seem abundant now but there are only about 2,900. It looks like there are plenty of otters sometimes because they can congregate in populated areas like Santa Cruz or Moss Landing Harbor. Unframed.
