Hypersthene is an inosilicate (a mineral from the silicate family) found in rocks of the orthopyroxene group (common components of magmatic rocks). Hypersthene is situated between enstatite and ferrosilite. It should be noted that enstatite contains no iron and ferrosilite contains no magnesium. However, hypersthene is composed of both iron and magnesium.
