Winterling. A Bavarian manufactory founded in 1907 in Marktleuthen, in the Franconia region, at the heart of the great German porcelain-making tradition. This milk jug is a sober and elegant testament to that. The shape is modern, almost architectural. The trapezoidal body rises to a flared neck, the spout is pinched, the handle is flat and gilded. Everything is clean, without superfluous ornament. The decoration is concentrated on the neck. A gilded band with intertwined scroll motifs, rich and precise, is underscored by a frieze of small regular blue strokes. A thin gilded line runs along the upper rim and the handle. The mark on the back, crowned with the intertwined initials of Winterling and the inscription Marktleuthen Bavaria, corresponds to post-war production, around 1945–1960. A period when Bavarian manufactories were regaining their know-how and exporting again to European tables. Luminous white porcelain, pronounced gilding, no hairline cracks.
