We’ve partnered with Brooklyn artist Ken Buhler to create a limited edition of prints based on his “Faithful Compass” series of collage works. Buhler creates these intricate images by first making a unique marbled paper onto which fragments of a single antique map are then meticulously collaged. Other modifications of light and color in the work often include the use of watercolor and metal leaf. “Early cartographers devised a pictorial language that offered a bird’s-eye view of the world, imbuing their maps with artistic invention as much as geographical intent. The visual rhythms of coastlines, rivers, mountains, and continents—along with the ornamental flourishes and marginalia of these early maps—seemed to invite a dialogue with the rich color, pattern, and chance elements of my marbled paper.
