Product description

Three brilliantly colored blue-and-gold macaws sweep around a tropical tree in this original painting by Huitoto artist Percy Diaz. Each bird occupies a different position. One macaw crosses the composition with wings fully extended and its long tail streaming behind it; another hangs dramatically upside down; and a third approaches with open wings. Their contrasting poses create an exuberant sense of motion. Bright yellow, blue, orange, green, and black stand against the warm natural surface of the llanchama bark cloth. Instead of serving merely as a support, the visible fibers and earthy tone of the bark become part of the forest setting. A black painted border frames the composition. Blue-and-gold macaws are among the most spectacular and recognizable birds of Amazonia. Their brilliant plumage, powerful voices, social behavior, and strong pair bonds make them unforgettable inhabitants of the rainforest. The painting was created by Percy Diaz, a Huitoto Indigenous artist from Puca Urquillo on the Ampiyacu River near the town of Pebas in the northern Peruvian Amazon, probably between 2012 and 2014. Its tall vertical format and vivid colors could make it especially effective in an entrance hall, dining room, stairway, tropical restaurant, eco-lodge, birding center, nature-themed office, or collection of Indigenous and wildlife art. Dimensions Approximately 22 x 32 inches, vertical format, including the black painted border Artist Percy Diaz People / community Huitoto, Puca Urquillo Region Ampiyacu River near Pebas, Loreto, Peru Approximate date 2012-2014 Medium Painting on natural llanchama bark cloth Presentation Original artwork; sold unframed Recommended retail price $450 Display & Shipping This original llanchama painting is sold unframed. Llanchama is a flexible natural bark cloth that may be professionally framed or mounted according to the buyer's preferred display style. For shipment, the painting will be carefully protected and rolled around a rigid support rather than folded. Because llanchama is a natural bark cloth, variations in surface texture, thickness, coloration, and edge shape are integral characteristics of the material rather than defects. Model: PNTB029
