At the time of the Qing dynasty, at the foot of the Anxi Mountains (Fujian province), there lived a very poor peasant. On the way to the fields, he always stopped to pray in a dilapidated temple, dedicated to Guan Yin (the goddess of compassion and mercy, who was invoked in the most miserable situations). One day, he promised the statue that if his situation improved, he would renovate his temple. Shortly after, the goddess appeared to him and showed him a small shrub in a cave. It was a tea plant. Replanted, it began to produce a tea of great subtlety. The peasant restored the temple and gave the tea plant to his neighbours. Tie Guan Yin spread throughout the Anxi Valley and made it rich. It is now considered to be one of the best teas in China, which is also well endowed with antioxidants and facilitates digestion.
