Description

Venkateswara, also known as Lord Balaji, is a form of the Hindu god Vishnu, the name is a combination of the words Venkata (the name of a hill in Andhra Pradesh) and Isvara (Lord). Although Vishnu’s avatars are innumerable, ten of his incarnations are celebrated therein as his major appearances, the ten major Vishnu avatars are collectively called Dashavatara, meaning “ten avatars”. The avatar Venkateswara is not counted as one of the Dasavatara. Lord Vishnu once arrived on earth searching for the Goddess Lakshmi, he failed to find the goddess and instead settled on Tirumala hills in the form of a forest gatherer and continued his search. During the search he met a beautiful girl named Padmavati who was the daughter of the King of the seven hills in Tirumala, they both fell in love and decided to get married. The King asked for a huge price for the marriage, thus Lord Vishnu took a large loan from Kubera, the Hindu god of wealth, Kubera gave Vishnu the loan on the condition that he cannot return to heaven prior to paying off his debt. To help him repay his debt, devotees offer Lord Vishnu wealth, and in return Lord Vishnu fulfills their prayers.
