Product description

Report copyright infringement by Pete Kornafel (Author) This book is a practical guide to inventory management for wholesale distributors and stores that supply "hard goods". It deals with merchandise classification and selection, forecasting, safety stocks, replenishment purchasing, promotions, forward buying, stock adjustments, and supply chain topics. It includes many formulas and over 50 tables and charts that cover all areas of inventory management. Industry data and examples from the author's auto parts distribution company and other automotive aftermarket firms illustrate each topic. Many of the formulas are from IBM, JDA, and other inventory management software packages, and are reprinted with their permission. All of these techniques were used to manage inventories in the author's company for more than 20 years. The automotive aftermarket deals with hundreds of thousands of different items and a very high service level requirement, so these techniques should cover a wide range of hard goods distribution. The book also has many anecdotes and case histories to illustrate the key points. It offers a valuable blend of strong, proven mathematical techniques and real life examples and experiences. Author Biography Pete Kornafel and his wife Lorraine owned Hatch Grinding Company. Hatch had two distribution centers supplying a full range of auto parts to 100+ CARQUEST Auto Parts Stores, 8 company stores, and 200+ employees. Both served as Chairman of the Automotive Warehouse Distributors Association. He received AWDA's Leader of the Year Award. Hatch was Small Business of the Year in Denver in 1984, and he was Small Business Person of the Year in Colorado in 1985. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering (MIT) and an MBA (Harvard Business School). With others, he instructs AWDA's Inventory Management Workshop, and has worked with 200+ automotive companies. He was President of CARQUEST Corporation, and one of two founding partners of E3 Associates. Number of Pages: 272 Dimensions: 0.61 x 9 x 6 IN Publication Date: February 12, 2004
