busu'l means violet colored in the Tzotzil Maya language, spoken by the women who weave these totes in the highlands of Chiapas. Hand woven on a backstrap loom, this gorgeous textile began its life as two humble threads. By virtue of the skill and artistry of generations of Maya weavers, those two threads were transformed by two human hands to become this beautiful bag. 100% cotton hand woven tote. All measurements are approximate due to the hand made nature of this item, each bag is made by a different person and therefore size can vary slightly. Made on a back strap loom by weavers in the Highlands of Chiapas. Woven in autonomous Tzotzil Maya Territory, established by the EZLN, following a coordinated and armed resistance to the enactment of the original NAFTA Treaty in 1994.
