The word mbatik comes from the Javanese language and means “write with wax.” Batik production involves printing patterns onto the fabric using a hand made stamp with liquid wax. The underlying fabric is thus covered and is therefore not dyed during the subsequent dyeing of the fabric in the dye bath. The original color can therefore be retained. Each bag is individually hand stamped and is therefore unique.
