Wholesale Slip-decorated pitcher Digoin Sarreguemines, green basket-weave decoration, model 7308

Made by the Digoin Sarreguemines manufactories at the beginning of the 20th century, this deep green slip-glazed pitcher is entirely covered with a raised decoration imitating woven wicker. The horizontal wicker strands and vertical staves are rendered with remarkable precision, creating a striking trompe-l’œil effect. The green glaze, with shades ranging from celadon to deep green depending on the thickness of the coating, accentuates the relief and gives the piece a distinctive presence. The handle, also woven, extends the decoration coherently. The pinched pouring spout and undulating rim imitate the edge of a basket. The interior is glazed a glossy green. Height 14 cm. The base bears the printed mark “Digoin Sarreguemines France 7308.” A chip of terracotta is visible on the lower body, disclosed here for full transparency and visible in the photos. Placed on a farmhouse sideboard, a wooden shelf, or a kitchen table, this pitcher brings the warmth of green and the texture of weaving to an interior. Light plays across the relief with particular intensity.
