Description
LEAD TIME TWO WEEKS Some objects arrive with a biography. This is one of them. The "Carmen" vase was designed by Ulrica Hydman-Vallien — one of the most significant figures in twentieth-century Swedish glass art — and produced at the legendary Kosta Boda glassworks in Småland. Hand-blown into its signature handkerchief form, the piece moves even when still. The scalloped edges catch light differently at every angle. The bands of blue and white read marine, Nordic, timeless. Hydman-Vallien worked at Kosta Boda from 1972 until her death in 2018, and her influence on contemporary glass artistry is immeasurable. The "Carmen" series is among her most recognised contributions — expressive, fluid, unmistakably hers. This example dates to the 1990s and carries the particular warmth of glass that has been lived with. No two hand-blown pieces are identical. You are not buying a product. You are acquiring a moment in Swedish craft history.
