It was built between 1954 and 1957. Then in 2017, a competition was launched by the city for a renovation of the building. After several years of work, the renovated building was inaugurated on June 26, 2023. The 1000-piece Royan puzzle illustrated by Paola Hirou was co-published with the Royan shop Chap'ti Déco. Paola Hirou trained in illustration in Lyon and experimented with various techniques and mediums such as painting, sculpture, and digital drawing. Today, her drawing style has developed towards a more graphic and refined approach, using flat colors.
