Herbert von Karajan here conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra of London in one of his most famous collaborations. Karajan's Columbia recordings with the Philharmonia, made in the 1950s and early 1960s, are regarded as among the greatest in his discography. The architectural power of Liszt's Les Préludes, the sumptuous orchestral color of Respighi's The Pines of Rome, the sparkling vivacity of Berlioz's Carnival of Rome — all are served by conducting of incomparable precision and energy. The sleeve is rigid, with a wooden strip and faux-leather allowing the record to be removed, a neat presentation format.
