Ashwagandha, also known as Indian ginseng, means “horse smell or essence”, and evokes the strength of this animal. This adaptogenic plant is traditionally considered in Āyurveda to be one of the best rejuvenating plants; nourishing all tissues, giving vitality and strengthening the body physically and mentally. It is also a tranquilizer and, as its name suggests (“sleeping pill”), it has also been used as an aid in the treatment of insomnia. Traditionally, Ashwagandha has been used as a relaxant, but also a regulator of the nervous system (in case of nervousness, insomnia), antioxidant and detoxifier, antispasmodic (at the bronchial, intestinal, tracheal, uterine and vascular muscle levels) and anti-inflammatory.
