The design appears to spin on a central axis winding into a tight knot of leaves, petals and buds. As a close friend and occasional partner of William Morris, they were pivotal in the Arts and Crafts movement, taking much of their inspiration from nature. They hand-made beautiful objects that were regarded as having the same status as fine art paintings. This piece can be seen at the De Morgan Collection at the Watts Gallery in Sussex.
