Our Bamboo bowls are made from sustainable bamboo from vast bamboo forests in the hilly part of the North of Vietnam. Bamboo grows a foot a day so is a hugely important resource and has a very wide range of uses. Spun bamboo (also known as coiled bamboo) is a traditional Vietnamese craft where thin bamboo strips are precisely coiled, shaped, and lacquered into beautiful bowls and homewares. Handmade spun bamboo in Vietnam utilizes various types of glue, including natural glues, resins, and non-toxic PVA glue, during the process of winding and shaping the bamboo strips into bowls and other products. The glue helps to bind the layers of spun bamboo together, creating a strong and durable structure and all the lacquers are also water based rendering the bowls fully food safe. We don’t recommend high heat and don’t put in the dishwasher!
