Many decades ago in the Sahaspur village in Northern India , 60 families were traditionally involved in handloom as their main source of income. With time, handloom products were replaced by machines. To revive the handloom culture using natural fibres,dyes and create a sustainable model the Rural Livelihood Mission implemented a program in collaboration with the United Nations (UNDP). The program worked with 37 artisans to help develop a range of products that were inspired by the mountains using natural dyes like turmeric, LAC (derived from the secretion of insects yielding shades of red ) , leaves and flowers, (thus the earth tones ) .
