Magnificent antique kantha tapestry made from upcycled old saris, selected piece by piece by Lilo in Jaipur. Large size and stunning colors: floral in shades of sage green and ecru on the front, bright red with notes of vivid orange on the back. The saris are manually assembled by women in the villages of Bengal and northern India to form a slightly quilted fabric (it's the ancestor of our boutis and quilts). The front and back being made of separate saris are completely different, giving you a 2-in-1 tapestry. Note that this ancient artisanal technique incorporates the use of small repair patches when necessary. This contributes to the uniqueness and authenticity of the kantha.
