Description
by Richard Hellewell (Author) A Winchester Model 73 rifle was found leaning against a pinion tree in the high Nevada desert. It had been there, undisturbed, for over 130 years. It is unknown who left it there. This story speculates on who left it there, and why. The story tells of a Shoshone boy and his father on a hunting trip, a cowboy and his partner, cattle drives, bandits, and ranching in the high Nevada desert. The discovery of a cave, hot summers, cold winters - all result in a reason for the rifle being left leaning against the tree over 130 years ago. The Forgotten Winchester was discovered in 2014 in the Great Basin National Park in Baker NV. It was stabilized and is now on display at the park's Visitor Center. The book includes pictures and details of the actual discovery, restoration, and display of the Forgotten Winchester in the Great Basin National Park Visitor's Center in Baker NV.
