" Francois-Dominique Toussaint de Breda (1743-1803), also known as Toussaint Louverture, was a general and Haitian revolutionary leader. This contemporary portrait by Haitian visual artist OliGa (Olivier A. Ganthier) was inspired by the Nicolas-Eustache Maurin and Francois Delpech versions.   Painted primarily in red and blue, the artist pays tribute to the Haitian flag, a symbol of unity between black citizens and citizens of color.
