Description
" Francois-Dominique Toussaint de Breda (1743-1803), also known as Toussaint Louverture, was a general and Haitian revolutionary leader. This contemporary portrait by Haitian visual artist OliGa (Olivier A. Ganthier) was inspired by the Nicolas-Eustache Maurin and Francois Delpech versions.  Painted primarily in red and blue, the artist pays tribute to the Haitian flag, a symbol of unity between black citizens and citizens of color. He also uses blue to represent the strength and bravery of the Haitian revolutionary heroes, while he uses red to represent the blood shed during the fight for freedom.  Original painting size 20x24", Acrylic on canvas. CARIBBEAN APPAREL™ x OliGa adaptation. The limited edition is available.
