Description

The conical tower in the window had drawn Kelly into the shop. But now, hundreds of pert, pastel circles beckoned in too-neat piles of pale greens, pinks, browns, and blues. “You can’t try something new if you don’t just pick one,” she scolded herself. “It’s not that hard.” But the array of flavors were no help: chocolate, rose, mint, blueberry, raspberry, huckleberry, pistachio, passionfruit, salted caramel, mocha, matcha, and all sorts of other combinations. There were more varieties than Kelly thought could fit into a little shop like this. Purple cookies attracted her hopeful eye, but she hesitated at the scripted label: Ube. “Need some help?” The baker appeared across the counter. Her name tag read “Flo” in the same curly writing. “I’ve never heard of… is it oob?” “Ooh-bay,” said Flo, ever the professional. “It’s kind of like a vanilla purple sweet potato.” “Oh. Interesting.” Kelly felt her ears burning. Gesturing lamely at the display, she asked, “Any recommendations?” “Plenty,” said Flo. “How much time you got?” Ten minutes later, Kelly emerged with a rainbow in a white paper bag. She fished out her first macaron, delighted by the crisp shell and smooth hazelnut filling, gone too soon. Words by Joie Filippini For more information about our yarn bases and spinning fibers, including care instructions, please visit our Yarn Bases page. Please note that, due to the nature of hand-dyed yarn, no two skeins of yarn will be exactly alike. I recommend alternating skeins every few rows for projects using multiple skeins of the same colorway. If you order multiple skeins of the same colorway, I will do my best to select skeins that are the closest match. I dye each skein with professional acid dyes and leave the yarn in the dye bath until the dye has exhausted before rinsing and soaking in wool wash. Minor color bleeding may occur on the first wash, especially with extremely dark colors. Although I do my best to accurately represent each colorway in product photos, please note that the colors may vary depending on monitor and/or device settings.
