Description

This sculpture is entirely handmade, from carving to finishing with wax polish. Made under fair trade principles using sustainable Jempinis, parasite wood, and non-toxic seals. To preserve the wood's natural color, a clear coat is added as the final step. This statue is ideal for home decor or giving as a present to loved ones. A parasitic plant known as a mistletoe plant grows on a host tree, in this case a Chinaberry (Jempinis) tree, and produces parasite wood. It is a mushroom-like growth that embeds itself into the tree's bark and feeds on the sap. A parasite-infested host tree will produce parasite wood as a sort of defense mechanism. These distinctive plants are commonly referred to as "wood roses." These growths are so solid and dense that even when the tree rots away and dies, they remain intact. This particular species of wood was used to create these exquisite, one-of-a-kind parasitic carvings. Previously, this wood was solely used for firewood, but today, it is used to produce splendid works of art. The images are representations of the sculptures we carry because every piece is unique.
