Rkatsiteli is one of the oldest and most cultivated grape varieties in Georgia, and is central to the country's winemaking tradition. Its history dates back several millennia, and it is considered to be one of the oldest grape varieties still in production in the world. Native mainly to the Kakheti region in eastern Georgia, Rkatsiteli is used to produce dry, sweet white wines, as well as orange wines, especially when vinified in qvevri, the famous Georgian terracotta amphorae. Wines made from Rkatsiteli stand out for their high acidity and freshness, with delicate aromas of green apples, pears, and sometimes lemon and honey. When vinified in qvevri, this grape variety can develop a unique amber color and a more pronounced tannic structure, resulting from prolonged maceration with grape skins, resulting in a wine that is complex and rich in flavors.
