Description
Design by sAto × Kimono Fabric by Ay These unique earrings are reborn from kimono offcuts left behind during the creation of Ay's upcycled garments. They are “mended” using Kinshi — an ultra-fine gold thread made from gold leaf and lacquer — in a poetic take on kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold. Each piece is designed by sAto, and hand-embroidered in Tokyo by Atelier Fucca, a welfare-supported atelier in Shibuya. The contrast between the radiant silk of vintage Meisen kimono and the shimmering gold thread creates a striking harmony — a subtle yet powerful accent for any look. 【KONNYAKU】Style Inspired by konnyaku, a traditional food of Gunma Prefecture, this refined shape represents “tazuna” (reins), a symbol of mental focus and readiness for challenge. color will be random. Materials & Specs Size: 3.5cm × 2.0cm Kimono Fabric: Vintage Meisen silk (Ay original) Gold Thread (Kinshi): Made in Nishijin, Kyoto by Yuji Torihara Embroidery: Atelier Fucca (Shibuya, Tokyo) Post/Back Options: Surgical stainless steel (hypoallergenic; medical grade) OR resin (for extra sensitive skin) About Kinshi – Traditional Japanese Gold Thread Kinshi is made by laminating gold leaf onto washi paper with urushi lacquer, then hand-cutting it into threads. The process requires exquisite craftsmanship, including layering 1/10,000 mm-thick gold foil with no gaps, and adjusting shine through the lacquer’s thickness. Once used exclusively for Kyoto’s imperial Nishijin-ori textiles, true kinshi is now produced by only a handful of artisans in Japan. About Meisen Kimono Meisen was a beloved casual silk kimono worn by women across Japan from the late 1800s to mid-1900s. Famous for its vibrant colors and bold patterns created through a unique double ikat technique (heiyō kasuri), it was especially popular in the Gunma region. Ay’s mission is to revive this fading tradition through sustainable fashion and design. 💡 Every piece is one-of-a-kind, handcrafted with purpose and story. Add a touch of timeless Japanese beauty to your collection.
