The medlar is a fruit liqueur that consists of a whole medlar, 70 ml liqueur and apple brandt from Hesse, apple liqueur and medlar juice. Our loquat is a bit different from the original, as we use Hessian apple brandt wine instead of the usual Calvados and add apple liqueur in addition to the loquat juice. As a result, our loquat has a milder taste and only 17% alcohol. It can be drunk pure and the fruit can be eaten alternately. Recipe ideas for the loquat include, for example, filling half a golden loquat with sparkling wine, mashed over vanilla ice cream or as a topping for crepes. The medlar is a stone fruit that is similar to peaches or apricots. It does not grow in large quantities in Germany and we therefore obtain our loquats from Spain.
