About Avlea Folk Embroidery

I'm Krista West, designer and owner of Avlea Folk Embroidery. I spent nearly three decades working professionally with historic Greek textiles and my hands-on immersion in the world of Mediterranean art is what drives every design I create. Each Avlea kit is rooted in a real historic source: vintage textiles from my personal collection, textiles I've researched in Greece, heirlooms friends have shared. While the patterns are centuries old, I adapt them for the modern needleworker with easy-to-read charts and I add specialty fabrics imported from Greece along with hand-wound DMC floss — everything a stitcher needs to make a folk textile genuinely their own. What sets Avlea apart for retailers is that folk embroidery was always made to be used, and that's exactly what my customers do with it. They make table linens, wall hangings, cushions, and heirlooms that become part of daily life.
