Sundakkai is one such vegetable, small in size which grows in a bush-like plant. It is known as Turkey Berry in English. Sundakkais are soaked in curd, salted and sundried, Vegetables or berries, when sundried are termed as Vathal in Tamil. Sundakkaivathal means sun-dried sundakki vegetable; this can be fried and served with curd or rasam rice. Sundakkai is also effective in fighting diabetes, anaemia, anorexia, and can cure cold and cough 'Vathal' is basically a Tamil word for sun-dried vegetables or berries. These veggies or berries are soaked in buttermilk for some hours or overnight, and later kept in the sun to be dried.
