Description
Our Happy Face Mezuzah was handmade using stoneware clay sources from the USA, hand-painted with glazes made in the USA, and created in California by artist Shana Ostrowiecki. Shana Ostrowiecki's new handmade mezuzah cases are designed to bring Jewish joy into the home and elevate rituals. Inspired by "dopamine decor" and nostalgia, her current series of Judaica incorporates a playful aesthetic into every room. DETAILS -Dimensions: 3.75" T x 1.25" W x .75" D -Material: Kiln-fired ceramic stoneware (porcelain-like clay sourced in the USA) -Finish: Hand-painted glaze made in the USA -Mounting: 3M VHB double-sided adhesive backing -Compartment in back fits 7cm scroll -Open Back Design: ensure mezuzah is mounted in an area shielded from direct rain and heavy moisture INSTALLATION & CARE -3M VHB tape: Clean the surface thoroughly to remove dust, oils, and debris; for best adhesion, wipe with rubbing alcohol and let dry completely. Peel the double-sided tape backing, position carefully, and press firmly in place for 20–30 seconds with even pressure across the full surface. -Because of the open-back design, ensure mezuzah is mounted in an area shielded from direct rain and heavy moisture -Handle ceramic mezuzah with care. To clean, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive tools to protect the glaze finishNote: Minor variations in color and texture are the proud markers of a completely handmade process. Please Note -Klaf is not included -Colors may vary slightly due to screen settings and the handmade glazing process THE STUDIO PROCESS Shana Ostrowiecki begins by working the clay by hand to prepare it for sculpting the mezuzah’s main body. She uses a selection of hand-building techniques to create distinctive textures and embellishments, imbuing each piece with intricate detail. After shaping and smoothing, the mezuzah is left to dry thoroughly for several days before moving on to the next step. It is then bisque fired at 1,850°F to prepare it for glazing. Shana sands and refines the surface before applying multiple coats of hand-painted glaze. The final step involves kiln-firing at approximately 1,926°F, which enhances the glaze's depth and strengthens the ceramic, resulting in a beautifully crafted and remarkable mezuzah.
