Each of these finely made items conveys warm thoughts and wishes from the giver to the recipient. Hiro’s original item is a palm-sized Paulownia wood box crafted by Masuya, a company in Oita, founded in 1930, with lacquer-coated. Inside the top box, there are mini Japanese scissors made in Niigata, which are attached to the magnet of the lid, and a tiny pulm-shaped pincushion. The pincushion is made from Noto Futakoshi Chirimen, which has a unique texture, and each piece is threaded by hand with care one-by-one to give it a beautiful texture. Chirimen textile started being made in Japan at the end of the 16th century and is a fabric with a distinctive weave. (Plum shape is a crest of the Maeda family, who were very powerful lords, continued for 14th generations in Kanazawa city. ) One-touch needles from Hiroshima, where have been making needles for over 300 years. This needle is magically easy to put through a thread to the hole of the needle. First, the wooden box is formed in Oita Prefecture. It is then sent to Yamanaka in Ishikawa Prefecture, where skilled artisans apply layers of natural lacquer. After the lacquering process is complete, the box is returned to Oita, where precise cuts are made to create the lid. Finally, the finished box is delivered to our workshop in Ishikawa. We also pay close attention to the way the lid is made. The cuts are carefully adjusted so that the lid opens and closes smoothly, while fitting securely and not slipping off when the box is held. By creating the lid after the lacquer is applied, we prevent the lacquer from seeping into the interior of the box. This extra step ensures a clean, refined, and elegant finish inside and out. If the lid were made first, lacquer would penetrate the interior during the coating process. Although this method requires additional time and effort, we believe it is essential to achieving the high level of quality and beauty that defines our craftsmanship.
