These rectangular tableaux are a modern adaptation of a traditional Tutsi art form in Rwanda. Traditionally, a paste using cow dung, ash and clay (the ash eliminates all bacteria and odor) create a bas-relief design in geometric patterns which are then painted black & white. In modern times artists excelling in the craft have proliferated and their designs have become increasingly creative. This painting measures 11 1/2 x 15 1/2" (29 x 39 cm)
