As the vegetation begins to change color and the temperatures cool down, a mist is commonly observed rising from Wonder Lake in the early morning hours. This is caused by the rapid cooling of the warm air over the water.  Denali is Athabaskan for “The High One,” and its vertical rise from base to summit is greater than that of Mount Everest. While the mountain is frequently obscured by clouds, the early morning hours generally yield the best opportunity to see the summit.
