Description
8.5” x 11” open edition screen-print, black ink on speckle tone off white paper, hand printed and signed by the artist. The Great Dane was originally bred for hunting wild boars, from the English Mastiffs and Irish Wolfhound. The French naturalist Buffon first took notice to the slimmer looking Boar Hounds in Denmark, claiming the Danish climate had caused the Greyhound to become a “Grand Danois”. The name stuck in French and English languages despite the fact that Denmark played no role in the actual breeding. Germany is credited with perfecting the model of the bred we know today.
