Shaped with generous oval contours, this white opaque porcelain candy box is adorned with a very gentle floral decoration. On the domed lid and around the rim, bouquets of pink roses bloom among brown-gold foliage and gold scrollwork, transfer-printed and highlighted with gold. A gold band discreetly edges the lid and the box. The interior is immaculate white. The gold band shows linear wear consistent with the piece’s age, dated from the 1950s to the 1970s. The maker is not identified. The piece measures approximately 20 cm in length, 14 cm in width and 9 cm in height with the lid closed. On a dressing table or small side table it naturally takes the place it once held in bourgeois interiors. Its depth also makes it a discreet case for small jewels or precious objects.
