In the 1980’s, Swiss ceramic artist Evelyn Porret introduced the village children to handicrafts when she founded a pottery school. Using clay from the Nile banks of Aswan, its graduates have become Tunis’s master potters who give the village and its pottery a unique aesthetic and style, adorning the pieces with primitive motifs from the flora and fauna of their surroundings; an identity that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
