Wholesale Receipts from the Bookshop: Katie Clapham

Receipts from the Bookshop A Bookseller's Year in an English Seaside Town Katie Clapham • Non-Fiction • Hardcover • Biography & Autobiography/Memoirs Based on the popular Substack that Julia Quinn calls “delightful” and India Knight describes as “absolute heaven,” a quirky and gossipy insider glimpse at a year in the life of a family-owned bookstore in a seaside English town—as told by the store’s owner. Last summer Katie Clapham began chronicling life at Storytellers, the little seaside bookshop she runs with her mother in the English town of Lytham St Annes. To her surprise, her weekly dispatches became a popular Substack—Receipts from the Bookshop—that gives readers a front row seat to the comings, goings, and eavesdroppings that make up the store’s cozy world. Shot through this irresistible year-in-the-life are unforgettable stories about the kid-in-a-candy-store joy of unpacking new books, the feistiness of the townsfolk, and the challenges of running a family business. Katie also makes note of the change of seasons (from Covert Rain to Obnoxious Rain) and the ever-changing stores along the high street (will the new one be a bakery?), as well as her favorite bookstore visits from dogs and children. Tender, funny and thoughtful, Receipts from the Bookshop is one great love letter to everything we hold dear: small towns, small shops, book chat, hot cups of tea, mums, kids, dogs, and just the right snack at 11 AM...
