Description
My grandmother, Nonee, had a beautiful big Waratah tree growing at the back entrance to her house. They will always remind me of her. I had a magical childhood growing up on a banana farm, exploring the bush and always searching for native animals. Nonee taught me how to make Anzac biscuits and an amazing choko pickle. She was a modern woman and worked when a lot of women didn't, keeping people connected by manning the telephone switchboard, back in the day before there were mobile phones. Her biggest love was her garden where I spent hours searching for skinks, blue tongue lizards & birds amongst the blooms. The Warratah was in full bloom when I got married. Nonee gave me a great big bouquet straight from that tree to use for our wedding. A beautiful memory of her and that special day. The Waratah flower looks like one flower, but it is actually made up of lots of little red flowers. This flower gives you alot more than meets the eye.
