Matured at Sea – Limited Edition For this strictly limited whisky specialty, brewing barley and spring water from the island of Sylt are used. The SILD is completed in small wooden casks on the historic cutter "GRET PALUCCA" with its home port in List. Traditionally, ships were moored to wooden stakes (Gaelic: CRANNOG). The movements of the sea and the harsh North Sea climate create a distinctive single malt. Its complex and subtle peat-salty aroma is reminiscent of the spray of sea waves constantly hitting the ship's planks. This is the world's only whisky that is matured on a ship. The salty sea air, along with the constant rocking of the ship that keeps the contents of the 100-liter casks in motion and in contact with the wood, affects the whisky as much as the varying temperature conditions during the three years of maturation.
