Wholesale Milk jug in fine Digoin earthenware – Blue-violet iris decoration and gold trim – Twisted octagonal shape

The Digoin manufactory in Saône-et-Loire is one of the great producers of fine French faience of the 19th and early 20th centuries. It produced an opaque ceramic with an ivory-white body, of great regularity, intended for bourgeois tables and household offices. Its twisted shapes and scalloped rims are among its most recognizable signatures. This milk jug features an octagonal form with twisted facets, characteristic of Digoin production from the Belle Époque. The upper rim is scalloped and highlighted with a fine gold line. The handle, with an angular profile, is glazed white. On the body, a bouquet of irises painted in blue-violet and white tones, with dark green leaves showing grey reflections, stands out against the pearly white background. The decoration is applied under the glaze; the colors are stable and luminous. The base bears a round blue mark. Very good overall condition. The gold on the rim shows slight wear consistent with the piece's age. No chips, no cracks. On a white linen breakfast table, placed near a porcelain cup, this milk jug has exactly the presence one expects from a well-chosen antique. It can be used or simply set there, on a wooden tray or a kitchen shelf.
