When the tea merchant arrived he was amazed by the unintended smoky flavour. Smoky teas tend to be drunk by western consumers and are not commonly drunk in China. “Tarry” refers to a higher quality Lapsang, which is what we stock at Adore Tea, tarry means smoked in French. “Souchong” is a technical term used to describe the quality of the whole tea leaf (i.e. not broken down).
