How We Began! Custom Cordage began in 1998 in the small town of Waldoboro, Maine, just off the Mid-Coast of Maine's scenic coastline, with a small crew we turned our rope making expertise into one of America's finest rope manufacturers of braided ropes and cords. We also had another idea making products using discarded fishing rope which in turn started a whole new business! “The Original Rope Mat Company" From there is where we developed a rope door mat hand made from discarded lobster fishing floating ropes. To address the entanglement of Northern Right Whales within the float rope new federal regulations mandated that lobster fisherman could no longer use float rope to connect their traps together, the fisherman now must use sinking line to connect their traps.
