The myth of the Cosmic Egg has played its role in many myths and magic, spanning many cultures over time. It cracks open to give birth to all that exists. All life begins in the darkness, whether inside an egg, a seed, or a womb. It must burst forth in its own time to come into the light and into life. Ostara, also known as the Spring or Vernal Equinox, is the dawn of the fertile season on the Wheel of the Year. Light and dark are in equal balance and moving forward, the light of the sun will outshine the dark of night, pushing nature into a flurry of growth and expansion. This season corresponds to growth, fertility, manifesting, Eggs are a precursor to life. So, it’s natural that the Cosmic Egg and its symbolism feature in in many celebrations of Spring.
