After harvest, they are sun-dried and brought into the Andes, where each one is carefully selected for its shape and size. Artists first sketch each design in pencil, then carve it by hand with fine chisels. Using pyrography, a traditional technique passed down through generations, they carefully use fire to burn and shade the surface, revealing rich natural tones of caramel, brown, and black.
