This comb was originally made in Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire) to be used to style hair. A comb can sometimes be worn as a decorative addition when inserted in both men’s and women’s hair. Fine hair inserts are considered a luxury and many become treasured items that are passed down through the generations. A Baule comb can also be used to prepare hair before being styled by straightening entangled strands. Each comb is accented with a unique etching pattern on both sides that was personally done by the individual that made the comb.
